Waste Management
02 July, 2025

Hiring a skip is a simple and efficient way to manage large amounts of waste, but if you’ve never done it before, the process might seem a bit confusing.

We’ll guide you through exactly how Shorts skip hire works, whether you’re using it for domestic or commercial use.

1. Consider your project needs

  • Type of waste: General Waste, Green Waste, Hardcore and Rubble, or Soil and Stones.
  • Amount of waste: Estimate how much waste you’ll generate to choose the correct skip size. It’s always better to get the next size up if you’re unsure.

2. Choose a Skip Size to suit your requirements

Shorts skip sizes (yards):

  • 4 Yard: Small domestic jobs
  • 6 Yard: Kitchen/bathroom renovations
  • 8 Yard: Light bulky items and house extensions
  • 12 Yard: Large building projects & bulky items
  • 20 Yard: Roll-on, roll-off skip
  • 40 Yard: Our largest roll-on, roll-off skip available

3. How many days can I hire the skip for?

Our skips are booked on a one week hire and will be collected on the 8th day.
