Hiring a skip? Here are some ground rules
Hiring a skip is a simple, straightforward process and the perfect option for you when clearing out the garden, spring cleaning or bigger home renovation projects however, knowing exactly what the rules and regulations are behind hiring a skip makes it an even more stress-free process.
Firstly, you need to understand realistically how much waste you are needing to dispose of, you’ll only end up wasting your money once you start to realise it’s not big enough for the job. One thing we stress is to not overload your skip – it is illegal to do this and unsafe for the public and our drivers. We have been in service for over 60 years and it still amazes us when we arrive to collect skips and we can’t see it under the mountain of rubbish that’s way above the correct loaded level.
Our most popular skip sizes are 4, 6 and 8 yard. We do have options for larger projects too, such as Tippers and Grab Lorries.
4 yard skip is ideal for small bathroom renovations projects, garden projects and general household/garage spring clean.
6 yard skip is our standard domestic skip and is ideal for general house clear-outs or small building works. This is the largest skip that can be used for soil and rubble.
8 yard skip is our large builders skip and is ideal for light, bulkier items, a full property clearance or house extensions.
We are more than happy to recommend what size skip will be best for your project.
Secondly, there are some items we cannot recycle and are prohibited from going in the skip so please check what can and cannot go in. Please note that we are able to take them away for you for an extra charge so please ask our team for more information on this.

Do you need a skip permit?
If you haven’t got a driveway or private road, you will need a permit to place a skip on a road. We can apply for a road permit for you from your local council. When booking your skip online or on the telephone, tell us that you need a permit and we can arrange this for you at an extra cost.
Keeping note of these things will reduce your risk of paying any fines or additional charges.
