Shorts Group Sustainability Week 2026
To kickstart Annual Sustainability Week 2026, we were delighted to welcome students to our Planners Farm site for an inspiring and educational visit. The day was designed to promote sustainability and showcase the work we do at Shorts Group to reduce waste and close the loop wherever possible.
Both KS1 and KS2 students had the opportunity to tour the site and discover how we put sustainability into action, from cardboard recycling processes to producing our high-quality compost. The visit gave students an insight into how waste can be transformed into something valuable and beneficial for the environment.
This experience builds on our recent collaboration with LVS School, where students designed their own stickers for the school’s new waste bins. Their creative designs are now proudly displayed throughout the school, helping to encourage better recycling. Keep an eye out for our upcoming blog post, where we’ll share more as the children get to see their final designs.
Students explored how our compost is made, gaining a deeper understanding of the process from start to finish. Bryony Morten-Short and Jordan Short-Moore (both 3rd generation in the Shorts family) hosted an engaging and interactive Q&A session with the children about the process. The students asked thoughtful questions and showed great enthusiasm for learning more about sustainability.
To finish off the visit, the students got to check in on the trees they planted during last year for Sustainability Week. It was fantastic for them to see how much the trees have grown since they were first planted, and to reflect on the role they played in helping to support sustainability.
Read more about the tree planting here.
The students got to take some compost, wildflower seeds, and a Shorts sustainable key ring home with them, as a lasting reminder of the day. It was a fantastic way to launch Sustainability Week and inspire the next generation to think greener!
