International Compost Awareness Week is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of composting and how it helps create healthier, more sustainable soil. ICAW is about connecting communities, sharing knowledge, and highlighting how recycling organic materials through composting can benefit both our environment and our everyday lives. By turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, we’re not only reducing landfill waste but also giving back to the earth in a meaningful, regenerative way.
🌿 How do I make my own compost at home?
If you’re inspired to get started with composting, here are some simple tips to help you succeed:
- Balance your materials: Aim for a mix of “greens” (fruit and vegetable scraps, grass clippings) and “browns” (dry leaves, grass, shredded paper/cardboard).
- Keep it aerated: Turn your compost regularly to introduce oxygen and speed up decomposition.
- Watch moisture levels: Your compost should be damp - not too wet or too dry.
- Chop materials smaller: Smaller pieces break down faster and more evenly.
- Avoid certain waste: Skip meat, dairy, and oily foods to prevent pests and odours.
- Be patient: Good compost takes time, but the results are worth it.
- Choose the right spot: A shaded, well-drained area works best for maintaining consistent conditions.

Winner Selection & Claiming: The winner will be chosen at random. We will contact you to arrange delivery. The winner must reply within 24 hours. If they fail to claim, we reserve the right to pick a replacement.
