Eton College’s trial of recycling food waste is being hailed a success.

Shorts Group have been working closely with the school’s Environment Committee and Eton College’s Building Officer Paul Bayley, setting up a trial for a food recycling scheme in Walpole House and the central dining hall which caters for half of the boarding houses and includes the Masters Common Room. Food recycling bins are collected by Shorts twice a week and are taken to a local food recycling facility. The trial started in February 2017.

Shorts are thrilled to hear, the food recycling trial resulted in a significant reduction in food waste from Walpole House. Previous to the trial, it was disposing of just under four-hundred litres of food waste. By the end of March, this was halved to just under two-hundred litres.

It is hoped that this success will be replicated across the other boarding houses from September 2017.
