Shorts Demolition, contracted to demolish Rydons School in Hersham on behalf of Bewley Homes in January 2018. Now in its final phase of a sixteen week demolition project, Shorts have successfully demolished the school and are carrying out final stage of slab and foundation removal before handing over the land for redevelopment.
Bewley Homes are building 296 units as part of the redevelopment of a 1960s school, of which the funds raised from the sale of the residential land to Bewley Homes facilitated the redevelopment of new school buildings with state of the art facilities.
Shorts Demolition had sixteen weeks to demolish this 1960s brick built school. Works have included, ecological surveys, extensive asbestos removal including historic buried services cover in pipe lagging, soft strip of all buildings, COSHH removal, and demolition of all structures using our fleet of excavators and attachments which included our Volvo EC235, Hitachi 350, Hitachi 220, DX 300, EC300 fitted with rotating grabs and our MBI Scrap sheers.
The site also saw the arrival of our new Sandvik QJ341 crusher and played a big part in recycling 98.5 % of all the materials generated from the works including 5000cu of crushed concrete that we screened into separate piles to be reused in the construction phase for the infrastructure and pile mats.
Shorts have worked closely with Bewley Homes throughout the demolition process. The project was organised into six phases. As we completed each phase, Bewley Homes started their own buildings works.
The school had one stipulation and that was the careful removal of two stone carvings within the brickwork of the school. Our demolition team careful salvaged the two stone carvings which are now in the School’s possession.
